Stomach ultrasound may prevent dangerous breathing complications in chronic pain patients
NCT ID NCT07537582
First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether using an ultrasound to check the stomach before sedation can help doctors change their anesthesia plan to lower the risk of stomach contents entering the lungs. It will include 140 adults with chronic pain who are scheduled for procedures and have factors like long-term opioid use or diabetes that can slow stomach emptying. The goal is to see how often the ultrasound results lead to a change in the planned sedation or airway management.
