Doctors test stomach scans to make tube removal safer for sick kids

NCT ID NCT05181904

Summary

This study aimed to learn if using an ultrasound to check a child's stomach before removing their breathing tube is helpful. Researchers wanted to see if the standard fasting rules used before surgery work the same way for very sick children in intensive care. They used ultrasound to measure stomach contents in children who had been fasting for 6 hours before a planned tube removal. The goal was to gather information to create better, safer guidelines for when to stop feeding these children.
