Summary

This study tests whether adding ganagliflozin tablets to standard care can slow kidney disease progression in 1,244 adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Participants will take either ganagliflozin or a placebo daily for 120 weeks. The main goal is to measure changes in kidney function over time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ganagliflozin

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a new treatment option to help preserve kidney function and delay the need for dialysis or transplant in people with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.

What could go wrong

This is a phase 4 trial, so the drug is already approved, but it may not show significant benefit over placebo. Side effects could include dehydration, urinary tract infections, or other risks common to this class of drugs.
