New cocktail aims to stop Chemo-Induced sickness in stem cell transplants

NCT ID NCT07413809

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding olanzapine to two standard anti-nausea drugs works better than the usual treatment for preventing delayed nausea and vomiting after high-dose chemotherapy. The trial involves 92 multiple myeloma patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplant. Researchers will compare how many patients have no vomiting and need no rescue medication in the days after chemo.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Fosaprepitant, tropisetron, olanzapine, and dexamethasone

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a better way to prevent severe nausea and vomiting after high-dose chemotherapy, improving comfort during stem cell transplant.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small trial (92 people) and only tests one specific chemo regimen. The new combo may not work better than the standard, and olanzapine can cause side effects like drowsiness.
