Glowing dye could help surgeons see blood flow during reconstruction
NCT ID NCT05071976
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a special dye and near-infrared camera can help surgeons see blood flow in tissue flaps used for reconstruction after gynecologic cancer surgery. Fifteen women will receive an ICG dye injection during surgery, and the surgeon will use the images to decide if any changes are needed. The goal is to see if this technique improves surgical planning and outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ICG (indocyanine green) dye injection
What this could lead to
If successful, this imaging technique could help surgeons make better decisions during reconstruction, potentially reducing complications like poor wound healing.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (15 people) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The dye can cause allergic reactions in rare cases.
