Simple foot exercises may reduce diabetes foot ulcer risk
NCT ID NCT05974020
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether specific foot muscle exercises could improve how pressure is distributed on the feet in people with type 2 diabetes. 37 adults were randomly assigned to either a training group or a control group. The training group did exercises like toe movements and short foot exercises for 12 weeks. Researchers measured foot pressure and posture before and after the program to see if the exercises helped prevent foot wounds.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
intrinsic foot muscle training exercises
What this could lead to
If effective, this simple exercise program could help prevent foot ulcers in people with diabetes, reducing the risk of serious complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 37 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercises may not be enough to prevent foot problems in higher-risk individuals.
