Sound waves aimed at the brain could boost stroke recovery
NCT ID NCT06391086
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether low-intensity focused ultrasound, a non-invasive technique, can help stroke patients regain arm and hand movement. Fifty adults who had a stroke within the past three months and have some arm weakness will receive either real or sham ultrasound daily for five days. Researchers will check for side effects and measure changes in brain activity and motor function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
NaviFUS® Neuronavigation-guided focused ultrasound system (device)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-invasive way to improve arm and hand movement after a stroke, without surgery or drugs.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study focused on safety and brain activity, not yet proven to improve recovery. The effect may be small or not work for everyone.
