Focused ultrasound trial for rare sarcoma halted early

NCT ID NCT04123535

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether focused ultrasound could partially destroy a rare soft-tissue cancer called undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma and boost the body's immune response. Only 5 people were enrolled before the trial was terminated. The main goal was to check safety and see if the treatment changed immune cell levels in the blood.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) device

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could help the immune system fight sarcoma more effectively, potentially improving treatment options.

What could go wrong

The trial was terminated early and enrolled only 5 people, so results are very limited. The approach is still experimental and may not work for everyone.
