Glowing dye helps surgeons remove stomach cancer while saving healthy tissue

NCT ID NCT06788548

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new surgical approach for early gastric cancer that uses a fluorescent dye to help surgeons see and remove only the cancerous lymph nodes, sparing healthy tissue. About 312 patients will be randomly assigned to either this new technique or standard surgery. The goal is to see if the new method can control the cancer as well as standard surgery while preserving more stomach function and improving quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Fluorescence-guided surgery procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a less invasive surgical option for early gastric cancer, preserving more of the stomach and improving quality of life while maintaining cancer control.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively early-stage trial with 312 participants, and the technique may not prove as effective as standard surgery in preventing cancer return. There are also risks from the surgery itself, such as infection or complications.
