First seen Mar 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 01, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looked at whether giving precise amounts of fluid during coronary artery bypass surgery can reduce the risk of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) — problems with memory, focus, and thinking that affect up to 70% of heart surgery patients. Researchers monitored 60 patients using special devices to guide fluid delivery. The goal was to improve blood flow to the brain and lower inflammation, which may help protect cognitive function after surgery.
