Doctors test cutting back on routine IV fluids to help septic shock patients

NCT ID NCT04947904

Summary

This study tested a new approach to managing fluids in intensive care patients with septic shock. Researchers wanted to see if strictly limiting fluids given for routine maintenance and medication delivery, while still giving emergency resuscitation fluids, could improve a patient's fluid balance. The pilot trial involved 50 patients to check if this restrictive strategy was safe and effective at controlling fluid overload.
