New study aims to take the guesswork out of ICU fluid therapy
NCT ID NCT07304661
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looks at 48 critically ill adults on ventilators to see which method better predicts if they need more fluids. Doctors will compare a standard blood pressure measure (pulse pressure variation) with an ultrasound-based heart measurement (LVOT VTI) during a leg-raising test. The goal is to help ICU teams give the right amount of fluid, avoiding both under- and over-hydration.
