First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests two different intravenous fluids given during heart surgery to see which one better prevents serious kidney problems, death, or the need for dialysis afterward. About 1,292 adults having heart surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either hydroxyethyl starch or a balanced crystalloid fluid. The goal is to find out which fluid is safer for the kidneys during these major operations.
