Flu isolation time questioned: new study tracks virus in tamiflu-treated patients
NCT ID NCT04515446
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tracks how long the flu virus remains in the upper airways of 18 hospitalized adults who are taking the antiviral drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu). The goal is to see if the virus clears faster than the standard 5-8 day isolation period, which could help hospitals use rooms more efficiently. Participants provide regular nose and throat swabs, and results are compared by flu strain, vaccination status, and other health factors.
