New study explores awake scope for cancer surveillance

NCT ID NCT06848868

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether a flexible scope can be used under local anesthesia (awake) to monitor for cancer recurrence in the upper urinary tract. Ten adults who had kidney-sparing surgery for upper tract urothelial carcinoma will undergo the procedure in an outpatient setting. The goal is to see if it is safe and technically successful, potentially offering a less invasive alternative to standard scoping under general anesthesia.
