Dental implant showdown: titanium mesh vs collagen membrane for stronger smiles
NCT ID NCT06875830
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two ways to rebuild bone around dental implants placed right after tooth extraction in the upper front area. Twenty adults with broken upper premolars will get either a titanium mesh or a collagen membrane, both with bone graft material. The main goal is to see which method gives thicker bone on the cheek side, measured by 3D X-ray. Results could help dentists choose the best technique for lasting implant success.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
titanium mesh and collagen membrane (used with xenograft for bone augmentation)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that titanium mesh is better than collagen membrane for preserving bone thickness around dental implants, improving long-term implant stability.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-stage trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedures are surgical, with risks like infection or implant failure.
