Fat cells used to regrow jaw bone in first human trial
NCT ID NCT02842619
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial tested a new treatment called BonoFill-II, which uses a patient's own fat cells to help rebuild bone in the jaw. The study included 27 people who needed bone grafts for dental implants or after cyst removal. Doctors transplanted the cell-based material into the jaw and then checked for safety and bone growth using X-rays or CT scans.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
BonoFill-II (patient's own fat-derived cells)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new way to regrow bone in the jaw using a patient's own cells, potentially avoiding the need for bone from other parts of the body.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 27 people, so results may not apply widely. The treatment involves surgery and there is a risk of infection or the bone not growing enough.
