Blood test could guide lung cancer treatment in new trial

NCT ID NCT07661173

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This Phase 2 trial is testing a drug called firmonertinib for people with a specific type of advanced lung cancer (EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer). The study uses a blood test (ctDNA) to decide if treatment should be adjusted over time. About 154 participants will receive firmonertinib alone or with chemotherapy and/or bevacizumab. The goal is to see if this personalized approach helps control the cancer longer.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Firmonertinib (a targeted drug for EGFR-mutated lung cancer, sometimes combined with chemotherapy or bevacizumab)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that adjusting treatment based on ctDNA (a blood test) improves how long people live without their cancer getting worse.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial (Phase 2) with only 154 people. It may not prove that ctDNA-guided therapy is better than standard care, and side effects from the drug combinations are possible.
