New targeted pill could boost lung cancer surgery success
NCT ID NCT07622706
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase II trial is testing whether the targeted therapy firmonertinib, taken as a pill for 8 to 16 weeks before surgery, can shrink tumors in people with stage II-IIIB EGFR-mutated lung adenocarcinoma. About 60 participants will receive the drug and then undergo surgery to remove their cancer. The main goal is to see how many patients have a major response in their tumor tissue after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Firmonertinib (also known as AST-2818), an oral targeted therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that taking firmonertinib before surgery helps shrink tumors and may improve long-term outcomes for people with EGFR-mutated lung cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with no comparison group, so results may not be definitive. Side effects from the drug or surgery are possible, and the approach may not work for everyone.
