Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.

Summary

Researchers compare the thickness of the thoracolumbar fascia, a sheet of connective tissue in the lower back, between women with fibromyalgia and healthy women. They use ultrasound to measure the fascia at two points in the spine on both sides of the body. The study also checks whether fascia thickness relates to pain intensity, widespread pain, and symptom severity in the fibromyalgia group. The goal is to understand whether fascia changes are part of fibromyalgia.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If the study finds a link between fascia thickness and fibromyalgia symptoms, it could guide future research into fascia-focused treatments or better ways to assess the condition.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study of 60 women, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Ultrasound measurements can vary between operators, and any link found may not hold in larger or more diverse groups.

Who can take part

This study's own entry requirements. Only the study team can say for certain whether you qualify.

Who is studied

The study population will consist of women aged 18-65 years. The fibromyalgia group will include women diagnosed with fibromyalgia according to the 2016 revised American College of Rheumatology criteria. The healthy control group will consist of women without fibromyalgia or chronic widespread pain. Healthy controls will be selected to be as comparable as possible to the fibromyalgia group in terms of age and body mass index. All participants will be recruited at Ankara Etlik City Hospital, Algology Clinic.
