Doctors test umbilical cord patch to seal spina bifida in the womb

NCT ID NCT04243889

Summary

This study is testing a new material—a patch made from donated umbilical cord tissue—to repair spina bifida in unborn babies. The goal is to create a watertight seal over the spinal cord defect during a special prenatal surgery. Researchers hope this will lower the risk of serious complications for the baby after birth.
