Could a repurposed drug tame seizures in adult dravet patients?

NCT ID NCT05560282

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested the drug fenfluramine (FINTEPLA) in adults with Dravet syndrome whose seizures were not controlled by other medications. The trial was open-label and added fenfluramine to existing treatments. It aimed to see if the drug could reduce monthly seizures by at least 50%. However, the study was terminated early with only 7 participants enrolled, so results are limited.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

fenfluramine (FINTEPLA)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a new treatment option to reduce seizures in adults with Dravet syndrome who don't respond to current medications.

What could go wrong

This small, early-phase trial was terminated, so results are limited. Fenfluramine may cause side effects like appetite loss or heart valve issues, and its benefits in adults are not yet proven.
