Poop pills target liver disease brain fog

NCT ID NCT03420482

Summary

This study is testing whether transplanting gut bacteria from a healthy donor can improve thinking problems in people with advanced liver disease, a condition called hepatic encephalopathy. Researchers will first find the best stool donors and then give capsules containing their processed stool to 30 patients, comparing results against a placebo. The goal is to see if changing the gut's bacterial community can be a new treatment option for this confusing and difficult complication.
