First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at whether fatty acids from the mother affect the risk of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), an eye condition in premature babies. Researchers will collect blood and placenta samples from 135 mothers and their newborns to measure fatty acid receptors. The goal is to understand why some preemies develop ROP while others don't.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help explain why some premature babies develop eye problems, potentially pointing toward future prevention strategies.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It is small (135 participants) and only looks at biological samples, so it cannot prove cause and effect.
