ICU hunger test: can patients eat before breathing tube?

Summary

This study is testing whether it is safe for ICU patients with severe breathing problems to continue eating and drinking normally, even if they might need a breathing tube. Currently, these patients are often told not to eat or drink to prevent food from going into their lungs during the procedure. Researchers want to see if allowing food and drink reduces patient discomfort from hunger and thirst without increasing risks.
