New scan could tell doctors in weeks, not months, if cancer drug is failing

NCT ID NCT04020978

Summary

This study tested a new type of PET scan to see if it could detect whether targeted therapy drugs were working for advanced kidney cancer much sooner than current methods. The goal was to see if changes in tumor blood flow, measured by a special scan just 1-2 weeks after starting treatment, could predict the patient's response. If successful, this could help patients avoid months of costly, ineffective, and toxic treatments by switching to a different therapy earlier.
