Ultrasound may spare kids from unnecessary CT scans after accidents
NCT ID NCT05910567
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a quick bedside ultrasound (called FAST) can safely reduce the number of CT scans in children who have hurt their belly in an accident. CT scans are very good at finding internal injuries but expose kids to radiation. The trial will include over 4,000 children from multiple hospitals to see if using ultrasound first helps doctors decide who truly needs a CT scan, without missing serious injuries.
