NCT ID NCT07150780

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether eating before an elective cardiac catheterization is safe and better for patients. Researchers will randomly assign 2000 adults to either fast or eat as desired before their procedure. They will compare patient satisfaction and breathing complications between the two groups.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could change hospital guidelines to allow patients to eat before elective cardiac catheterization, improving comfort and satisfaction.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage study at a single center, so results may not apply everywhere. There is a small risk of respiratory complications from eating before sedation.
