Talking away loneliness: new study tests short therapy for rural isolation
NCT ID NCT07218965
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 6-session therapy program (CBT-PSI) can reduce loneliness and improve mental health in adults living in agricultural areas. 65 participants will be assigned to either the therapy or a health education group. The goal is to see if changing thoughts and behaviors around social isolation can ease loneliness, anxiety, and depression.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Perceived Social Isolation (CBT-PSI)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a practical, short-term therapy to ease loneliness and related anxiety or depression in rural communities.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 65 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The therapy is behavioral, not a drug, and benefits may be modest or temporary.
