Eye injection shows promise for Diabetes-Related vision loss

NCT ID NCT04597918

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a drug called faricimab (VABYSMO) in people with diabetic macular edema, a condition where diabetes causes fluid buildup in the center of the retina, leading to vision loss. Participants receive injections of faricimab into the eye every four weeks. The goal is to see how the drug affects vision and eye structure, and to find biological markers that might predict who benefits most.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

faricimab (VABYSMO)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help identify which patients with diabetic macular edema respond best to faricimab, potentially leading to more personalized treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase, single-arm study with no comparison group, so results may not confirm effectiveness. The treatment involves regular eye injections, which carry risks like infection or inflammation.
