New scan could reveal hidden pancreatic cancer
NCT ID NCT07342231
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new type of PET scan that uses a special tracer to light up a protein called FAP, found on pancreatic tumor tissue. The goal is to see if this scan can detect cancer spread that standard CT scans miss. Researchers will compare the new scan with CT in 60 adults with pancreatic cancer to see if it improves accuracy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Gallium-68 labeled FAP inhibitor (FAPi) for PET imaging
What this could lead to
If successful, this scan could help doctors see hidden cancer spread in pancreatic cancer patients, leading to more accurate staging and better treatment choices.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early exploratory study with only 60 participants. The new scan may not prove more useful than standard CT, and results may not apply to all patients.
