Simple blood test may predict lung damage in autoimmune diseases

NCT ID NCT07393217

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at a blood protein called FAP, which is linked to tissue scarring and inflammation. Researchers will measure FAP levels in people with rheumatoid arthritis and systemic sclerosis, as well as healthy volunteers, and compare them with standard tests and lung function. The goal is to see if FAP could become a useful blood marker for disease activity and lung involvement. Participation does not change usual medical care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test to help doctors monitor disease activity and lung involvement in rheumatoid arthritis and systemic sclerosis.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. The blood marker may not prove useful in real-world settings, and results may not apply to all patients.
