Could your family tree predict lung cancer risk?

NCT ID NCT06196424

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed study enrolled 336 people with non-small cell lung cancer to collect detailed family cancer histories using a questionnaire. Researchers want to see if certain patterns of cancer in relatives, along with smoking and other risk factors, can help identify patients who might benefit from genetic counseling. The study does not test any treatment or drug.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If patterns emerge, doctors may better identify which lung cancer patients should receive genetic counseling.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only collects questionnaire data, so it cannot directly improve patient outcomes.
