Shocking new training cuts fall risk for spinal cord injury patients

NCT ID NCT04881565

First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tested a fall prevention training program for people with incomplete spinal cord injury (iSCI). Falls are very common in this group, but current training only helps those who can already step without support. The researchers added functional electrical stimulation (FES) to help more people participate. Twenty-one participants were randomly assigned to training with or without FES, completing 18 sessions over 6 weeks. The goal was to see if adding FES improves balance and reduces falls, which could lead to a larger study.
