Heart fix may shield brain: new trial targets memory decline

NCT ID NCT05790707

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether treating a common heart rhythm problem (atrial fibrillation) with a procedure called catheter ablation can help slow down memory loss in people who already have mild thinking difficulties. About 120 adults aged 60 to 80 with both conditions will be randomly assigned to get either standard heart-rhythm medication alone or the ablation procedure plus medication. The main goal is to see if the ablation group shows better scores on a memory and thinking test after 6 months.
