Massive DNA bank created to unlock cures for blindness
NCT ID NCT00378742
Summary
This study aimed to build a national DNA and blood sample bank from people with inherited eye diseases, like retinitis pigmentosa. Over 6,600 participants provided samples and eye exam information to help researchers identify the genetic causes of these conditions. The repository was created to accelerate future research and the development of new treatments, and participants could choose to be contacted about future clinical trials.
