First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will measure how the body uses energy and burns fat in 10 people with extreme obesity (BMI of 60 or higher). Participants will spend 23 hours in a special metabolic chamber and drink a labeled water to track energy use over a week. The goal is to better understand metabolism in this group, not to test a treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could improve understanding of how the body burns energy and fat in extreme obesity, potentially guiding future treatments.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early observational study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It does not test any treatment.
