Hot pepper cousin tested to destroy pain nerves in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT00804154

Summary

This early-stage study is testing the safety of a new drug called resiniferatoxin (RTX) for people with severe pain from advanced cancer that other treatments cannot control. RTX is related to the compound in hot peppers and works by targeting and destroying the nerves that send pain signals. The drug is injected into the fluid around the spinal cord, and researchers will carefully monitor up to 45 participants to find a safe and effective dose.
