Own stem cells infused in spinal cord injury hope
NCT ID NCT03925649
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This expanded access program gives one patient with a spinal cord injury at the C5-C7 level a single infusion of their own stem cells (HB-adMSCs). The stem cells are taken from the patient's fat tissue and grown in a lab before being given back. The goal is to see if this approach is safe and might help with recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HB-adMSCs)
What this could lead to
If this works, it could point toward a way to improve function or slow damage after spinal cord injury.
What could go wrong
This is an expanded access program for just one patient, not a full trial. It is too early to know if stem cells help spinal cord injury, and there may be risks like infection or immune reactions.
