New blood test spots silent spread of bile duct cancer before surgery

NCT ID NCT07224737

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a blood test that looks at tiny particles called exosomes can find cancer that has spread but is not visible on scans in people with a type of bile duct cancer (intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma). The goal was to help doctors know who needs stronger treatment before surgery. 230 patients who had surgery provided blood samples, and the results were analyzed using machine learning to predict the risk of hidden spread.
