NCT ID NCT01176578

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether 6 months of aerobic exercise can improve blood vessel health and cell function in older veterans with impaired glucose tolerance, a pre-diabetic condition. Researchers will measure changes in endothelial progenitor cells and muscle blood flow. The goal is to understand how exercise might help prevent diabetes-related complications.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show that regular aerobic exercise improves blood vessel health and glucose metabolism in older adults at risk for diabetes.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage observational study with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Exercise adherence and individual health differences could affect outcomes.
