Exercise before transplant: new study aims to boost energy and quality of life in myeloma patients

NCT ID NCT06789003

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a tailored exercise program can reduce fatigue and improve quality of life for 120 multiple myeloma patients preparing for a stem cell transplant. Patients will do three 45-minute sessions per week, mixing strength and endurance exercises, both at the hospital and at home. The goal is to see if the program is practical and helpful enough to offer to all eligible patients.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

adapted physical activity (exercise program)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a practical exercise program that helps multiple myeloma patients feel less tired and have a better quality of life before and after stem cell transplant.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early feasibility study, not a large trial. Previous exercise programs have shown mixed results, and patient dropout rates can be high, so the benefits may not be clear or lasting.
