Exercise may boost immunotherapy in kidney cancer
NCT ID NCT07680556
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study explores whether adding high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to standard immunotherapy (nivolumab plus ipilimumab) helps patients with advanced kidney cancer. Thirty participants are randomly assigned to either a supervised exercise program or usual care. Researchers will check if the exercise plan is practical and gather early data on immune function, fitness, and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
high-intensity interval training (HIIT)
What this could lead to
If exercise boosts immune response, it could become a low-cost add-on to improve immunotherapy outcomes in kidney cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study (30 people) testing feasibility, not effectiveness. Results may not apply to all patients, and exercise may not change cancer outcomes.
