Pedaling while dialysis: a new hope for better sleep and less anxiety?
NCT ID NCT07176403
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-week aerobic exercise program (cycling) during hemodialysis sessions can improve sleep quality, depression, and anxiety in kidney patients. 100 adults on maintenance dialysis will be split into an exercise group and a control group. The goal is to see if this simple, drug-free intervention can boost mental well-being and dialysis effectiveness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
intradialytic exercise (aerobic cycling during dialysis)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to improve sleep and mood for people on hemodialysis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with no blinding, so results may be influenced by placebo effects. Exercise during dialysis may not be safe or tolerable for all patients.
