Which exercise works best for stroke survivors with knee hyperextension?
NCT ID NCT07670728
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two types of exercise—open kinetic chain (like leg raises) and closed kinetic chain (like squats)—to see which better reduces knee hyperextension in stroke survivors. Sixty adults who have had a stroke and can walk with some help will be randomly assigned to one of the two exercise programs for 4 weeks. The goal is to find which approach improves knee control, strength, balance, and daily function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
exercise therapy (open and closed kinetic chain exercises)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a more effective exercise approach for reducing knee hyperextension and improving walking after a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants and a short 4-week treatment period. Results may not apply to all stroke survivors, and the exercises may not produce lasting improvements.
