Walking again: exercise trial aims to get diabetic foot ulcer patients back on their feet
NCT ID NCT06894563
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-week exercise program can safely improve mobility in people aged 50 and older who have recently healed from a diabetic foot ulcer. Participants will either do seated cycling and strength exercises or follow standard care guidance. The goal is to see if the exercise regimen is feasible and helps people walk farther without causing the ulcer to come back.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
12-week exercise regimen (seated cycling and strength/balance exercises)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a safe way for people with healed diabetic foot ulcers to regain mobility and reduce their risk of cardiovascular death.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage feasibility trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercise might not improve mobility or could increase the risk of ulcer recurrence.
