Lifting weights, lifting hearts: can resistance training soothe angina in women?
NCT ID NCT07733986
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether an 8-week daily resistance exercise program can reduce chest pain and improve daily function in women who have angina without blocked coronary arteries (ANOCA). Around 76 to 152 women across 13 hospitals in the UK and Netherlands will be randomly assigned to start the program immediately or after a waiting period. The study focuses on a condition that is more common in women and has few proven treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a daily resistance exercise program for 8 weeks
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a non-drug option to reduce angina symptoms and improve quality of life for women with ANOCA.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial (76–152 women) testing an exercise program that requires daily commitment, so adherence may vary and results may not apply to all patients.
