First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tests whether a 6-month online stationary cycling program can improve vision, physical function, and thinking skills in veterans aged 65-89 with intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Researchers will measure contrast sensitivity, night vision, and visual acuity. The goal is to find a safe, accessible way to reduce the burden of AMD, which currently has no cure.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
stationary cycling (spinning)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to slow vision loss and improve daily function in people with AMD.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 70 participants. Exercise may not improve vision significantly, and results may not apply to all AMD patients.
Conditions
