Scientists probe why exercise spikes blood pressure in kidney patients

NCT ID NCT05928936

Summary

This study aims to understand why people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) often experience a sharp rise in blood pressure during exercise, which can limit their ability to be active. Researchers will measure nerve and blood vessel responses in 156 participants, some with CKD and some without. Part of the study will also test if a 12-week program of exercise training, with or without a sodium bicarbonate supplement, can improve this response and physical fitness.
