Sound waves open brain barrier to boost chemo in deadly tumors

NCT ID NCT04998864

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This early study tested whether a device using focused ultrasound can safely open the blood-brain barrier in 3 patients with high-grade glioma (a type of brain cancer) who were receiving standard chemotherapy. The goal was to let more chemo reach the tumor. The study focused on safety and whether the barrier could be opened repeatedly. It was not designed to cure the disease, but to improve how well existing treatments work.
